WHAT IS REAL AND WHAT IS AN IMITATION?
With The Thing, John Carpenter is slowly building up terror in form of total isolation and the threat of something unknown. An alien spaceship burried under the ice for a hundred thousand years, is found and dug out in Antarctica by a Norwegian crew. The Thing is a surviving organism from this ship, that has the ability to imitate other lifeforms. The American Antarcticacrew finds the remains of the Norwegian crew, but there`s something unknown loose somewhere, and it is already inside their base. The Thing is a nervebinding movie that deals with isolation. The crew is totally isolated from the rest of the world, outside the temperature is 40 degrees below, and who can or can`t be trusted? You could turn claustrophobic by much less. John Carpenter has made a movie that is just as exciting as Halloween, and it has that slow creepy developing, the way they don`t make movies anymore. The Thing is also loaded with extramaterial and has very good picture and sound.
This movie is a classic, and a top score on the scale. 6!
