Hidden Features - The
Abyss |

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment's spectacular 2-disc box set of the James Cameron underwater epic 'The Abyss' contains a series of hidden trailers that can be found all over the place on the second disc. From the special features menu, select 'Mission Components' and you are taken to a new menu. At this menu hit up on the directional buttons to get above sea level. Hit up until the wave is highlighted. Hit up once more and the plane above the wave will be highlighted.
Hit 'Enter' and you are shown a coming soon trailer for 'True Lies'. Also, while at the first special features page select 'More'. At this menu select trailers and you are taken to a few trailers for
the Abyss. If you notice, there are a few posters behind these. From the reviews trailers hit up and Aliens is highlighted. Select it and you can watch the trailer for 'Aliens'. From the main trailer hit down and 'True Lies' is highlighted. Press 'Enter' to view the trailer or hit right and 'Strange Days' is
highlighted. Select it and you can view its trailer as well. Here is a list of other trailers you can find on the disc. |

True Lies teaser - Click 'The Abyss In Depth - Mission Componenets' Click the up arrow. Click on the little harrier jet in the sky.

Dolby Digital trailer - Main Menu. Click Audio options. Click on 'Hydrophone Checkout'
Aliens teaser - Main Menu. Click Audio Options. Click on facehugger.
Aliens teaser - Main Menu. Click Subtitle Options. Click on facehugger.
Aliens teaser - Imaging Station. Highlight 'Pseudopod Multi-Angle' Click left on your remote.
Aliens teaser - Personal lockers, all the way in the back. Click on facehugger in the upper right corner.
Aliens teaser - Documentary. Click on chapter 18 on the documentary chapter selections and you will see a face hugger on the rail. Select it to run the trailer.
Strange Days teaser - Imaging Station. Highlight 'Image Gallery Menu' Click down on your remote. |

More Extra Trailers
How to find it:
Go to the "The Abyss In-Depth - Mission
Components" section. At the next menu, push UP until you get
to the "The Wave" item, and push UP one more time. There
is a Harrier in the sky that you can select and it takes you to
another True Lies trailer.
Even more extra trailers
How to find it:
Go to the Image Gallery Menu section and move all the way
over to the right until you are on the Still Image Gallery and
push DOWN. Your cursor will move to an item on the wall at the top
of the screen and you will see some text on the monitor that
references Strange Days. Select this item and you will go
to another Strange Days trailer.
Extra trailers
How to find it:
In the trailer section on the 2nd DVD, behind the 3 Abyss
movie posters, you will see movie posters for Aliens, True Lies,
and Strange Days. You can access them as follows:
When your cursor is on the Reviews Trailer item, push UP and
you will get to an Aliens item that shows a trailer.
When your cursor is on the Main Trailer item push DOWN and you
will get to a True Lies item that shows a trailer.
From the True Lies item push RIGHT and you will get to
the Strange Days trailer!
Second ALIENS trailer
How to find it:
For yet another Abyss easter egg, go to the Imaging Station,
highlight Pseudopod Multi-Angle, and then press LEFT. You will
highlight a facehugger on the left of the screen which will take
you to a second Aliens trailer.
Comments:
There is rumoured to be a third Aliens trailer, but I have yet to
find it. The "button" immediately beneath the "return
to Sub Bay" button in the Imaging Station looks suspicious,
though...
Fifth Aliens Trailer
How to find it:
On disk 2 in the main menu click on "Subtitle Options."
Wait for it to tell you "Transmission Lost. Return to Sub Bay
Menu." When the monitor says this press left to highlight
another facehugger. Just another short trailer.
Third ALIENS trailer
How to find it:
On the main menu for the second disc, go into the Personnel
Lockers. Highlight the table with 2 triangles. Push UP until you
reach the very end. Highlight the Building "Deepcore"
selection. Press RIGHT. This will highlight a facehugger on the
far right. Press ENTER to get a short trailer.
Speaker system test
How to find it:
On Disc Two, click on MAIN MENU to be taken to the part of
the bay that serves as the menu for playing the full movie. Select
AUDIO (the speakers on the top left).
Click on the left speaker (Hydrophone Test?) and you'll get a
groovy 12-15 second test of your speaker system (courtesy of Dolby
Digital, I think.)
Fourth Aliens Trailer
How to find it:
On disk 2 in the main menu, click on "Audio Options"
and make sure that "Return to "Sub Bay"" is
highlighted. Push up to highlight the facehugger on top of the
right horn speaker. Press enter and enjoy another short movie
trailer. |
