GIVE AN ARAB A SWORD, AND HE MAKES A KNIFE!

Hail Odin, Hail Tor!! Here comes The Northmen. The 13th Warrior is a great and stylish actionmovie about Vikings from Norway who brings an Arab to battle with them. Not many movies have been made about Vikings which is a
shame because they were fascinating. I`m from the coast of Norway myself, so the Vikings were my ancestors. Beware I have the wild blood of Vikings running through my veins. This movie actually have some Norvegian actors. We
have Dennis Storhøi and Maria Bonnevie among others. Dennis Storhøi delievers the best performance in this film, but Antonio Banderas isn`t so far behind. I don`t wanna ruin the story by writing about it if you haven`t seen the film. The 13th Warrior on dvd is astonishing to watch. The sound and picture are of referancequality. In the opening of the film it is very
cool to hear them talk Norvegian, you will also hear some Danish. Then they start to talk English and the Arab has learned Norvegian. The 13th Warrior is very entertaining, and have some great fightingsequences. There is
however nothing extra on this disc, and that is truly disappointing. I would love to have a commentarytrack and some deleted scenes, `cause I know there are plenty. On the region 1 disc at least you get a trailer. The point for this film is 4.

The 13th warrior

When you combine the the talents of director John McTiernan (Die Hard, The Hunt For Red October) and writer Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park, Rising Sun) you could expect great things. Sadly "The 13th warrior" never delivers.
Based on the book "Eaters Of The Dead" by Crichton, it tells the story of an arab nobleman (Banderas) who must help save a group of vikings from something very evil. The film looks good and the action are well done, no complaints there. The problem is the story. First of all it's no good, secondly it's full of holes. Lots of things remain unanswered or just unmentioned. Who are these evil people and are they people and whatever happens with the love interest?
You end up with an unsatisfying film that never really delivers on it's potential. Rumours say that there was a fight between McTiernan and Crichton (Who also produced) and that Crichton re-cut much of McTiernans original cut.
Maybe we should wait for the director's cut and see if that one is any better.
